2008 Children's Book Writing Contest

Contest Dates: September 1, 2007 through May 31, 2008. NOTE: May is the last month for entries. Eligibility: Children ages 4 to 16 Contest Rules: • Children are invited to write a silly book on any topic, but it must be under 300 words. It may be fiction or non-fiction. Books may be written by individual authors or in collaboration with friends or classmates, but all participants must be 16 years of age or younger. • SillyBooks will choose a winning entry each month, between September, 2007 and May, 2008 (9 total monthly winners). • SillyBooks' visitors will vote on their favorite entries each month. Individuals may visit SillyBooks.net as often as they like to vote on their favorite entries each month. • A panel of SillyBooks judges will choose the monthly winner from the top three entries each month. • SillyBooks will pay a $25 cash prize to each monthly winning author. • SillyBooks will produce each monthly winning book as a Flash animated picture book. Each winning book will be professionally illustrated, recorded by professional actors, and animated by one of our talented group of animators. SillyBooks pays all costs of producing each month's winning book. • SillyBooks will post the finished books on the web site (www.sillybooks.net) each month for viewers to read and enjoy. • Voting for the Grand Prize Winning Book will begin July 1, 2008, and end on September 30, 2008. Visitors to SillyBooks.net will be invited to vote for the Grand Prize Winning Book. • Individuals may visit SillyBooks.net as often as they like to vote on the Grand Prize winner. • The book that receives the most viewer votes during the voting period will be declared the Grand Prize Winner of the 2008 SillyBooks Children's Book Writing Contest. • The winning author will receive a $200 cash prize and will be proclaimed the SillyBooks author of the year. • All winning entries become the sole property of SillyBooks.net. For complete details, see the following SillyBooks 2007 Children's Book Writing Contest Official Rules. OFFICIAL RULES NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. 1. SPONSOR: SillyBooks.net (http://www.sillybooks.net). 2. RESPONSIBILITY: All legal responsibilities of a contestant under these official rules will be assumed by the contestant's parent or legal guardian. 3. ENTRY: Contestants must enter by email only. No other entries will be accepted. Email entries to RogerCarr@sillybooks.net. Entries should be submitted on a Microsoft Word file attached to the email message. At the top of the first page of the entry, include the contestant's first name only, the contestant's city and state, and a valid email address. All correspondence will be by email, so a valid email is essential for entering the contest and receiving notices regarding the contest. 4. LIMITATIONS: Entries must be the original work of the contestant, must not infringe upon third party rights, nor previously have won awards nor have been published. Open only to children 16 years of age or younger. Employees of the Sponsor or its parent and affiliated companies are ineligible. The Sponsor is not responsible for Entries from persons older than 16 years of age, or for inaccurate, fraudulent, incomplete, stolen, lost, illegible, or late entries, each of which will be disqualified. Books may be written by individual authors or in collaboration with friends or classmates, but all participants must be 16 years of age or younger. Only one prize check will be paid per entry, regardless of whether the entry was written by an individual or as a collaborative effort. Void where prohibited or restricted by law, and subject to all federal, state and local laws and regulations. 5. PRIZES: One (1) GRAND PRIZE: $200 cash prize, publication of the entry as a read-aloud animated book or cartoon, and posting for a minimum of one (1) month on SillyBooks.net (http://www.sillybooks.net) and/or, at the sole discretion of the Sponsor, on any other Website URL suitable for viewing by children. Eight (8) or Nine (9)Monthly First Prizes: $25 cash prize, publication of the entry as a read-aloud animated book or cartoon, and posting for a minimum of one (1) month on SillyBooks.net and/or, at the sole discretion of the Sponsor, on any other Website URL suitable for viewing by children. All prizes will be awarded, provided a sufficient number of eligible Entries are received. 6. PROCEDURES: Contest begins September 1, 2007 and ends May 31, 2008. SillyBooks' visitors will vote on their favorite entries each month. Individuals may visit SillyBooks.net as often as they like to vote on their favorite entries each month. A panel of SillyBooks judges will choose the monthly winner from the top three vote getting entries each month. Grand Prize judging will begin July 1, 2008 and conclude on September 30, 2008. SillyBooks' visitors will vote for the Grand Prize Winner online at http://www.sillybooks.net . Individuals may visit SillyBooks.net as often as they like to vote for the Grand Prize Winner. A panel of SillyBooks judges will choose the Grand Prize Winner from the top three vote-getting entries. The Grand Prize winner will be announced on the Website SillyBooks.net on or before November 15, 2008. 7. CONDITIONS: By entering this Contest, each contestant agrees that: [1] he/she will be bound by the Rules and the Sponsor's decisions; [2] the Entry will not be acknowledged or returned; [3] neither the Sponsor, nor any of its officers, directors, shareholders, employees, agents or representatives are responsible for claims, injuries, losses or damages of any kind resulting, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from the awarding, delivery, acceptance, use, misuse, possession, loss or misdirection of any prize or participation in this Contest or in any activity related thereto. 8. PRIZE ACCEPTANCE: By accepting a prize, each prize winner irrevocably assigns and transfers to Sponsor and its assigns all rights in the Prize-Winning Entry, including, without limitation, all copyrights. Additionally, each prize winner grants to Sponsor and its assigns the right to publish, use, adapt, edit and/or modify such Prize Winning Entry in any way and in any and all media, without limitation, and without consideration to contestant. |
